'Nick' Poster Final Draft Taking Comments On Board

After reading comments from the previous final draft, i understood that the film title was hidden and quite unclear because of the font colour being black and clashing with the black shades in the background from the editing. Therefore, I used a white drop shadow around the title 'Nick' to make it clearer to the eye and preventing it from blending in with other black colours.

Additionally, the text on the end of the billing box was fading behind mine and Florinda's pictures, so i pulled the billing box layer above our pictures so that the audience can identify which actors and actresses are starring in the prospective film.

The review stars that I used before did not work well with the colour scheme of the poster and did not compliment the composition of the image. So, I copied and pasted the same red star I made in Microsoft Word into Adobe Photoshop on different layers to look neater and more organised than before.
Also, I just added a small amount of brightness to Nick's picture to look bright and a key character in this eponymous film/teaser.

Nick Poster Final Draft 1

After changing Nick's picture, the poster looked more interesting, along with the Gradient tool I used on Photoshop to blend Nick's picture with the white background, along with the three pictures of the girls that I chose to differentiate because the smaller pictures in the second draft again looked dull and out of place. With the help of the Gradient and Blur tool, the final draft of the poster looked more compact and understandable, with a clearer eye flow and composition.

Although Lucy's picture had a higher contrast to the other pictures because her picture was taken in sunlight, I toned down the saturation and contrast of her photo to a level where it looked suitable in front of a white background.

Nick Poster Second Draft

This second draft looked much better than the first one because i changed the font to look more sophisticated and give off a more 'Vogue' image rather than a dull one like before. Subsequently, I included the pictures of the three girls which definitely compliments both the text and Nick's picture, providing viewers with a clearer insight and understanding of the story in the film.

However, I was worried because Nick's picture looks very pixelated so I decided to use the picture I took back in December with longer hair. I also wanted to experiment to see whether the other pictures I took of the girls with different clothes would look better with a clearer picture of Nick with longer hair.

First Draft of Nick Poster

I wanted to experiment with the way the poster would ultimately look like, so I used only Nick's photo on his own with a white background and use of pink shadows and inner glows on both his picture and the text to own connotations of flattery and frivolity. However, the poster looked dull and blank so I decided to do a next draft to compare.

'Nick' Poster Photoshoot Schedule, Plan and Phone Number Directory

Photoshoot Plan

Nick- One was already done before he shot the teaser trailer with longer hair on 5th December outside a shop in Blandford street, wearing casual yet attractive clothing, and then on Monday 23rd February, with shorter hair and behind a blue wall in Blandford street building

Lucy- Monday 23rd February, wearing some sort of pink with natural styled hair outside the mews near Paddington Gardens, using natural sunlight instead of artificial lights

Final 'Nick' Teaser Trailer Presentation

Precious Trailer Analysis

This trailer contains a massive amount of catharsis and allows us viewers to automatically feel sympathy for the character of Precious. This is aided by the use of camera angles and shots that have been embedded within to highlight the representation of how the female gender is stereotypically repressed within society and is forced to go through pressure, at any age.

The close ups into Precious' face provide us with an insight into how she feels in society. The fast cuts of her dreams and aspirations show us how exciting they are and how they flick like images in Precious' mind.

The mise en scene and settings selected in this trailer immediately illustrate the bad conditions Precious lives in, with an abusive mother which the camera zooms into to imply her violent nature.

There is a very dark colour scheme used to match the purification of emotions displayed throughout this trailer; crying, sadness and fear. However, as the trailer develops, we pick up that the colour scheme gets brighter to beige/white/creme colours that prove Precious' ending is a happy one.

Alfie Trailer Analysis

The themes that are recurrent throughout this trailer are women, sex, clubbing and fun. If we analyse closer, we see that Alfie’s life, quite similar to Nicks, is lived in a hedonist way.

The fast cuts between different shots of women show how fast Alfie moves onto different women, therefore illustrating his womaniser reputation and image.

The colour scheme of black and white elucidate his desire to stay classy in order to attract women. The trailer does begin with a massive sign saying “Desire” which epitomises one of Alfie’s needs in life- linking to Maslow’s hierarchy of needs.

The mise en scene of the trailer clearly reveal Alfie’s life of class in the great apple that is New York. The use of Alfie’s smart costume gives off the message that looks can be deceiving and that although he is dressed smartly, he is definitely not the man women would want to count on. The costumes of the women in this trailer clarify their seductiveness and wear statement colours like red and black that obviously attract Alfie towards them.

The use of synchronous music with the footage is very helpful in allowing the audience to picture a clear image of a British man in New York; a lot of fun.

Alfie’s mode of address and use of rather formal language here establishes his good manners; obviously a tool to attract more women. However, good manners doesn’t get you anywhere and it is clear that Alfie will learn a lesson in this film.

3 month Summary

Role during the last 3 months

Art Director/Camerawoman

•Created a list of contact details that can easily reach the actors to find out when they are free to film, if not reschedule or film another shot instead
•Created a list of props and costume (Coat from Zara) that need to be bought with group budget, ready for Nick’s filming on Friday
•Replaced Amber’s role of camerawoman a few times, due to her sick absence.
•Shot the first scene of the teaser, taking into account the weather forecast and Lucy’s timetable to appear in the shot.
•Shot scenes in London Eye and Westminster Abbey
•Wrote up the script and planned locations
•Took photos of three girls and Nick for poster
•Researched music to put on the background of the teaser

Improvements

•Next time, I need to ensure that the coat from Zara properly fits Nick, if not keep the receipt to return immediately
•Although weather was taken into account, the first shot of Lucy could be re-shot at different angles to experiment, now that both I and Amber have more experience and knowledge of the camera settings. We will take this into consideration.

Plan for next week

Art Director

•Contact the actors and actresses to double check their timetables to re-shoot last minute shots, taking the weather and London Transport delays into consideration
•Finish all filming on Monday
•Record Nick’s voiceover for narration with either sound recorder or camera
•Return Nick’s coat from Zara

Project Plan for possible 'Nick' Teaser Trailer

Planning and Research

Synopsis
‘Nick’ will be a romantic comedy, based on a male protagonist whose life we follow in order to get an insight into a stereotypical young British man’s life. It will huge twist about a heartbreaking love square between a British gentleman and three other women, taking influential themes from Shakespeare’s ‘Midsummer Night’s Dream’.

Target Audience

The target audience that I want my teaser to aim for are older adolescents and adults who enjoy watching films about love, partying and London in general.

Similar Films
Teaser trailers that I have watched in detail and considered to have a similar synopsis are Alfie, Bridget Jones, John Tucker Must Die and Mean Girls.

Actors/Actresses
I would like to use an actor who has a petite yet attractive stature, blonde with blue eyes and charm. The three girls should all be of different races and cultures to make it seem more interesting and illustrate Nick’s character as a young man who has the ability to attract any woman.

Seasons
It would be really interesting to experiment with a variety of shots in different weathers. For example, shots with sunshine would contrast well with a rainy day or if lucky, snow.

These two films are very different in terms of genre however both share similarities in how their websites are strikingly attractive. They both use codes and conventions such as colour, iconography, font and mode of address to target their specific audiences.
