Precious Trailer Analysis

This trailer contains a massive amount of catharsis and allows us viewers to automatically feel sympathy for the character of Precious. This is aided by the use of camera angles and shots that have been embedded within to highlight the representation of how the female gender is stereotypically repressed within society and is forced to go through pressure, at any age.

The close ups into Precious' face provide us with an insight into how she feels in society. The fast cuts of her dreams and aspirations show us how exciting they are and how they flick like images in Precious' mind.

The mise en scene and settings selected in this trailer immediately illustrate the bad conditions Precious lives in, with an abusive mother which the camera zooms into to imply her violent nature.

There is a very dark colour scheme used to match the purification of emotions displayed throughout this trailer; crying, sadness and fear. However, as the trailer develops, we pick up that the colour scheme gets brighter to beige/white/creme colours that prove Precious' ending is a happy one.
